Dusty B&W Film

I found a folder full of black and white 35mm film negatives that I made a few years ago. I had my own ghetto dark room in my restroom and I would spend hours developing and printing photos. This week I began to scan them on the computer just to see where I was in life at that moment in time. A lot of my favorite images represent people that I admire and the beginning of my travels. Here are a few of my favorites.

Grime - San Francisco - 2002

Daryl Palumbo - Austin - 2003

Jeremy Weiss - Austin - 2003

Taking it back to the Old School

Lately I have been studying portraits from the Gothic and Renaissance period to better understand the tradition of portraiture. I found this really interesting painting and I imagined what it would look like with my style. I was pretty pleased with the results and I plan on continuing with this series of grotesque Renaissance inspired portraits.

Inspiration

My Art is influenced by many things such as music, family, friends, travel, reading and especially other art. I truly enjoy visiting museums and art galleries because its is always nice to see what other artist have created. One place that I frequent on a regular basis is The San Antonio Museum of Art. They have a nice collection there from ancient art to more more contemporary works. Here are few works that I found really inspiring.

New to my Art Collection

I have been collecting art for a couple years now because I strongly believe in supporting artist who's work I enjoy. Here a few new pieces that I recently added to my collection. Support your local artist and buy some art.

Sour Grapes Love the Kids

A few days ago, Sopa and Congo went out to paint a mural for the community. This one is located about a block west of the Illinois and Cockrell Hill intersection in Oak Cliff. We enjoy what we do, but people usually have an uncertain feel about us and what we are about. It's not until they see the mural in progress that the people get excited that there is something new and fresh being painted in their neighborhood. This mural is meant to give a cool positive message because our hood is full of violence and negativity. There is a small snow-cone shop near the mural, so we are sure that a lot of young kids and families will be seeing this. While we were painting this mural we were commissioned to paint some more murals in other locations, so look out for some more work. This year has been very productive for us and there is no sign of us slowing down anytime soon.
