Sopa Studio Visit

Sopa (Miguel) has been part of the Dallas graffiti art scene for the past decade now. He is a self thought artist whose skills have been developing for the past 10 years now. He is one of youngest members of the Sour Grapes Crew and his future seems very promising. Sopa has pushed himself and his work very hard and seems like there is no stopping him any time soon. He will be showing some new work on January 16, 2010 at Kettle Art Gallery. Sopa will be showing alongside one of Dallas most amazing graffiti artist, Eddie. These two will be delivering an amazing show together that will help kick off 2010 which marks the 10 year anniversary of the Sour Grapes Crew. This weekend is going to be good.

First we have an amazing art show that our good friend Sergio Garcia has put together over at HCG Gallery on saturday (www.hcggallery.com). The show will have work from some amazing San Francisco artist as well as some dope local artist. On Sunday we have the grand opening of Transit Bicycle Co., which our good friend Darren (www.adiktfootwear.com) is hosting. There will be free food and drinks along with some fun bike competitions.

Here is a short video of the Young Latino Artist exhibition at the Mexic-Arte Museum in Austin, Texas. I was fortunate enough to be able to show with some amazing artist. The show was a success with an great turnout through out the night. If you are in Austin, make sure to stop by and see the show, which closes on september 27. 2009. This summer has been pretty busy for me and the Sour Grapes Crew. One of my highlights so far is that I recently became part of The Cheech Marin Collection, which happens to be be one of the largest Chicano Art collections in America. This has been such an honor for me, my family, my crew and my gallery (HCG Gallery). Thank you to every one that has always supported me, expect some new work from me in the next few weeks. Sour Grapes In Seattle this past week.

Alejandro Diaz and I (Carlos donjuan) were invited to be part of "Desmadre Arte", a show held at the Vermillion Gallery in Seattle, Washington. The show was based around the fresh Latino perspective in the art world, so the curators thought that our work would fit right in. Our Very own Alejandro was able to attend the show and looks like it was an amazing show with a great turnout. Below you can see some Alejandro's new work, and it is amazing.

Carlos Donjuan has been away at The University of Texas at San Antonio for the past 3 years working on his Masters degree. This coming month he will be graduating with his M.F.A and will present some new work in his master thesis exhibition. If you are in San Antonio, come out and support.

Sour Grapes in Seattle

Alejandro Diaz and Carlos Donjuan of the Sour Grapes Crew will be in a group show next month in Seattle. The show "Desmadre", features many upcoming Latino artist such as Albert Reyes, El Mac, Marka 27 and many more. This is going to be a great show.

Los Super Elegantes

This years SXSW was amazing and the SG crew rolled deep. We saw a lot of good music performers, DJ's and art. We saw musicians such as Bun B, Kanye West, Hollywood Holt, Mano, U-God, Tittsworth, Dj Craze, Dj Klever, Dave Nada, Bird Peterson, Dead Prez, etc. One of my personal favorites was Los Super Elegantes who I have been wanting see for a long time. Their performance was amazing and to top it off, they were super nice when we met them afterwards. You should check them out. They make music in many different languages and perform in museums and clubs all over the world.

UNT pt.1

This past weekend, the Sour Grapes Crew went to The University of North Texas for a special graffiti event. We were invited to paint a temporary wall that the university had built just for us. It was a perfect day for painting in a chill campus environment surrounded by cool people. We had a great time doing this event in conjunction with the "Graff, Tag and Bomb: The Influence of Graffiti" exhibition, which includes some of Dallas dope graffiti artist. Make sure to check out the art show and wall at UNT. This exhibition will run until march 28, 2009. Special thanks to Victoria for making all of this happen.
